Maria Thereza Alves faz o exercício de nos reconectar às plantas do parque a partir das nomenclaturas Guarani, identificando por meio de placas de sinalização espécies que antes mesmo da chegada dos portugueses já eram amplamente conhecidas no território que hoje chamamos de Brasil. No cerne da obra, Maria Thereza coloca o marco científico da linguagem centralizada no humano e a confronta com a terminologia Guarani, que identifica a planta a partir de suas propriedades e de sua relação com o entorno. O foco na questão indígena é primordial na trajetória da artista, que já em 1978, como membra do International Indian Treaty Council, fez uma apresentação oficial na Comissão de Direitos Humanos da ONU, em Genebra, sobre os abusos sofridos pela população indígena brasileira. Maria Thereza participou de inúmeras mostras nacionais e internacionais, tais como a Bienal de Sidney (2020), Bienal de São Paulo (2016 e 2010), DOCUMENTA (13) em 2012 e DOCUMENTA (15) 2022, dentre outras. Recebeu o Vera List Prize for Art and Politics 2016-2018 e foi uma das fundadoras do Partido Verde em São Paulo no ano de 1987.
Maria Thereza Alves builds a path to reconnect us to the plants in the park by using their names in the Guarani language, identifying in signs the species that were widely known in the territory we now call Brazil even before the Portuguese arrived here. In the core of the artwork, Maria Thereza places the scientific mark of language centered in the human, and confronts it with the Guarani terminology, which identifies the plant based on its properties and its relationship with the surroundings. The focus of the indigenous question is vital in the trajectory of the artist, who, as far back as 1978, as a member of the International Indian Treaty Council, gave an official presentation at the Human Rights Commision at the UN, in Geneva, about the abuses suffered by the Brazilian Indigenous population. Maria Thereza took part in a number of national and international exhibitions, such as the Sydney Biennale (2020), Bienal de São Paulo (2016 and 2010), DOCUMENTA (13) in 2012 and DOCUMENTA (15) 2022, among others. She was awarded the Vera List Prize for Art and Politics 2016-2018 and was one of the founders of the Partido Verde (Green Party) in São Paulo in 1987.
